Your Morning Skincare Products
1. Cleanser
We recommend using a water-based cleanser in the morning to keep your skin hydrated while removing sweat and debris that has accumulated in your pores.
2. Serum
We offer many condition-specific serums, so our providers can help you find the right skin care in Waterloo to target pigmentation, dry skin, acne, and more.
3. Moisturizer
Moisturizer regulates your body's natural production of oil and helps your skin retain water to stay hydrated. Some moisturizers can also contain serums to make your routine easier.
4. Sunscreen
For the most important part of your morning routine, you should always protect your skin from UV rays by wearing a mineral-based sunscreen.
The Importance of Sunscreen
Sunscreen is the most important part of your morning skincare routine. While your skin needs sunlight to produce vitamin D, an essential nutrient for maintaining your health, too much sun can cause damage. UV rays from the sun break down your skin’s collagen and elastin, both proteins responsible for keeping your skin smooth and flexible. Without them, your skin will become wrinkly and spotted over time, prematurely aging you.
We often recommend our favorite “Wessy Boy” Dual Defense SPF 50+ sunscreen. However, any mineral-based sunscreen that has a minimum SPF of 30 will do the trick. We also recommend reapplying sunscreen every 2 to 3 hours. If you run, swim, or do any other physical activity that causes you to sweat or wash off your sunscreen often, you need to reapply more often. When it comes to skin care in Waterloo, sunscreen is #1!

Your Evening Skincare Products
1. Cleanser
If you wear makeup, we recommend using an oil-based makeup remover before moving to a water-based makeup cleanser. For non-makeup wearers, you can use just a water-based cleanser.
2. Exfoliator
Exfoliators reach deep into your pores to remove dried oil and dead skin cells. Exfoliators also increase your body's production of collagen and elastin and boost cellular turnover.
3. Serums
We offer a variety of condition-specific products for your skin care in Waterloo—including serums. Our providers can help you find the best serums to apply based on your unique skin needs.
4. Night Cream
Your skin has a natural healing and regenerative process that activates when you sleep. A night cream will boost your skin's ability to heal and speed up the process of repairing your skin barrier.
What to Know About Serums
Everyone has specific skin concerns they want to address—acne, dry skin, pigmentation, wrinkles, and many more. For improving your overall skin health, most of our skin care in Waterloo can help. But to address specific concerns, we recommend serums. You can find a wide variety of available serums, and each one contains a different mixture of vitamins and minerals to reduce specific issues.
At SPRY Skin & Wellness, we understand that finding the right serum can be difficult, especially since everyone’s skin reacts differently to different products. To help, our expert team has developed our own multi-purpose serum that targets many major concerns our patients face.
This serum uses a unique mixture of botanicals that calms, protects, hydrates, brightens, and cleanses the skin. Full of antioxidants, it works great for all skin types and tones, improving your skin’s health by removing toxins and free radicals to reduce inflammation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Let’s compare skincare to taking care of your teeth—you go to the dentist twice a year for checkups, but then you keep your teeth healthy by brushing and flossing daily. Going to the dentist without brushing your teeth or flossing makes the appointments pointless, and brushing every day can’t reverse a cavity or a chipped tooth. Taking care of your skin follows the same principles.
You can improve and restore your skin with treatments at SPRY Skin & Wellness Center, and then you maintain your skin’s health by using at-home skin care in Waterloo. With the proper skincare products, you can help your skin retain moisture, produce the right amounts of sebum, and keep your pores free of dirt and debris. This helps you maintain the results you achieve with your in-office treatments, and it can even improve those results over time.
Finding the right skincare products can be difficult on your own. However, you can schedule a skin assessment with one of our providers. They determine the root cause of your main concerns and help you find the perfect skincare products for your specific goals.
You should use skincare once in the morning and once in the evening. If you use skincare, especially cleanser, more often than that, then you might damage your skin more than you improve it.
Skin types have 5 categories—dry skin, oily skin, normal skin, combination skin, and sensitive skin. Using the wrong type of skincare could actually damage your skin and make your specific concerns worse rather than improving them. Finding the right products targets your specific skin type and concerns safely so you can truly create smooth, healthy skin.
Our providers can tell you for certain what skin type you have, but you can also try to discover that yourself at home. To do that, you use what we call the “wash test.” For this, all you need to do is wash your face with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. Once you pat (not rub) your skin dry with a clean towel, you will wait an hour.
After an hour, note how your skin feels. If it feels tight and scratchy, you most likely have dry skin. If your skin feels dirty to you, or if you touch your skin and have oil on your finger, then you most likely have oily skin. If some parts of your face feel oily while other parts feel dry, then you have combination skin. If washing your skin causes redness or irritation, then you have sensitive skin. If you feel the same after an hour, then you most likely have normal skin.
